Pre-Dorset Serrated Endblade

We found this pretty little endblade lying on the surface in a sandy blowout.  I love the tiny pressure flaking patterns on the Pre-Dorset lithics at this particular site.

  1. Would the serrations have been the desired effect (for cutting) or just a result of pressure flaking?

    1. The serrations are intentional – these folks had a lot of control over the final form of their tools and we find a variety of edge finishes - including these fine serrations on endblades and points. However, they must have been using very fine tipped flakers for their pressure work because all of the tools we are finding have very narrow flake scars whether they are serrated or not.
