Labrador 2002 - Land

These are some of my favourite photos from the summer of 2002, in and around Cartwright, Labrador.

  1. That desert at the top is Labrador? I am surprised!

I dig that big rock on the beach. I swear I've heard a story attached to that mammoth.

  2. The sandy blowout in the top photo is part of Porcupine Strand, a 40+km long beach stretching north of Cartwright. The Vikings called it the Wonderstrand and mention it in the sagas. Its one of the landmarks that helped guide the Ingstads to the Norse settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows on Newfoundland's Northern Peninsula.

  3. I like the classic Grosswater Box based and notched point. It is Grosswater isn't it? Or has my memory of what is what lost it. Grosswater has tip fluting too right? Patrick

  4. Good eye, Patrick - yes that's a Groswater box-based endblade. Tip-fluting is more of a Dorset technique. There might be a few exceptions, but its not a Groswater trait.
